I always feel so much smarter after reading your Life of Crime posts, even though I haven’t been managing to read my copy. I thought the answer to the headline question might be that novelists love living fantasy lives 😂

Love Slow Horses! Favorite show of the moment. Gary Oldman is killing it! I am sadly remiss as a reader in the spy novel genre, love love love Kate Atkinson Jackson Brodie series but that’s a detective series so I don’t think it counts. I hope you’ll do a list of your faves!

If you like world-weary spies, a great place to start is any John LeCarre--The Spy Who Came in From the Cold is a classic--or Mick Herron! I personally would like some of these more credible spy stories set in places in other places. The UK is overrepresented. I can DEFINITELY see a Slow Horses type story in Canada--SLOW BEAVERS? (jk). You might think of Canada as a peaceful nice place without spying but there's a whole lotta stuff happening now with China and India, and I don't think anyone's writing about it, or not well. (And I am NOT a Canadian Intelligence expert nor do I plan to become one.)
