I love a rags to riches and onward to…a somewhat normal life trying-to-write-and-find-a-balance…story! And I hope that bottle of clear liquid on your desk is some straight-up hard alcohol rather than, say, hand sanitizer. But seriously, loved the inside deets on a fabulous debut.
That was my old, hipster water bottle (probably a rinsed out kombucha bottle or something); those were the days before Covid, when I didn't have hand sanitizer on my desk!!
The way my mom FULLY BELIEVED we had been chatting. When I sold the book and told all the lawyers I was working with, I was talking to one of my bosses about the dilemma of whether to continue under a pen name or change to using my real name if I was leaving my law practice anyway. He said to me, completely seriously, "you know who you should ask about this? Stephen King." I was like "...John, do you think Stephen King has time to talk to me about whether I should use a pen name?" and he was like "I think he'd love to do that." The man has an approachable reputation!!

"You've been talking to Stephen King?" LOL
Another great, super informative post on the nuts and bolts process of getting a book out into the world.
THANK YOU!!!
