Tell us what you're reading...
during your hot summer holiday, or what you hope to read in weeks ahead!
I had a ridiculously long post about Apple TV’s Presumed Innocent adaptation half-written for you. Then I sprained my wrist (no sympathy please it’s my own silly fault) which is messing with my typing. But hey, who needs to type a lot when it’s a holiday! Let’s make this one briefer but more social. (We’ll talk about Presumed Innocent in two weeks.)
I’ll go first!
What I’m reading or plan to read soon:
Suspense: Riley Sager’s Middle of the Night. And a Wanda Morris book, probably Anywhere You Run, because I will be on a panel with Morris, at the Columbus Book Festival in Ohio, in ten days!
Non-suspense: I’ve just dipped my toes into Miranda July’s All Fours and Catherine Newman’s Sandwich and would love to read them more or less simultaneously because they have some marriage-and-family-and-menopause overlap.
YOUR TURN! Share your current reads. Your wanna reads. Your contrary “Everyone else is reading X so I’m reading Y” reads.” Your “I bought this book already and it’s been giving me the side-eye from my nightstand for two months” reads!
And also…
Just finished Sandwich *and* All Fours; Sandwich made me laugh out loud more than once. Right now almost through North Woods by CantRemember, which is good & a bit strange & interesting; next in the queue is Night Watch, Jayne Anne Phillips, whose work (tbh) doesn't always click with me. And then b/c I'm in Italy, I'm reading Shirley Hazzard's strange meditation/memoir about living in Capri with her husband & the friendship she developed with the novelist Graham Greene. It's interesting more than compelling -- but her sentences! have I raved here about Transit of Venus? Astonishing.
really looking forward to your take on Presumed Innocent. No one I know is watching it and I need to get someone else's perspective! I just finished Look in the Mirror by Catherine Steadman
