So I literally JUST finished reading Sea Wife this afternoon and immediately remembered this post, so I came back to it to refresh myself on your takeaways. I thought it felt suspenseful, too! I'm actually surprised more people aren't calling it that?! This book is a masterpiece. And I saw she has another one coming out in April set on the Appalachian Trail in Maine. Instant buy for me!
I'm SO glad you loved it too!! Isn't is strange that it's not marketed as suspense? Donna Freitas called it "a marriage thriller" to me at one point, and I think that's a perfect description. It's just a rare one where one of them isn't dead OF MURDER haha. Her upcoming book was not on my radar, thank you!!!!
The structure of knowing some disaster is coming but not knowing the details is just one of the many things that made A Little Life an incredible book to read (and equally painful)
it is. but it’s also one of the most beautifully written books i’ve ever read. it’s devastating primarily because the author is so talented and through her writing you feel SO deeply attached to these characters. it hurt me so much but i recommend it endlessly!!!
Love the idea of "sowing little mysteries." Also, just subscribed as paid sub and in my comment I think I tragically misplaced a "y," in Caitlin's name. SORRY!!!
You have fully convinced me to read this book, Caitlin. I love this kind of book analysis. Thanks for doing it! (Also: love the Bill Murray gif!)
I really do think it's a good learning exercise for me, too!

It is strange!! Seems like a missed marketing opportunity. But whatever, I’m so excited about her next one!

I still haven't read this one!! I think I've hesitated because I've heard it's just emotionally devastating
