I love reading all of these answers. And it's interesting how people are very particular and limited with who they share with (like--only my husband and agent, as an example), even though we need communal support. Which also makes me think about MFA's and the overshare--I always wonder, is it really that good of an idea to share your book in its early stages with like, 11 other people at once and get ALL that feedback? I think I'd never write again.

Loved reading all these perspectives! I'll share a loose concept with my inner circle in the early stages and save more in-depth sharing for later when I actually have a grip on the story and feel like I can talk about it without butchering the premise. Sometimes when I talk about a story too early, I can HEAR how boring and lame I'm making it sound probably because I don't know all the things yet. It's so hard to capture and explain the undefinable magic of a story in those early drafts when it's still largely just a VIBE, at least for me.
